Being a fosterer
Fostering animals is a difficult job, and its not always easy to see the aniamls go into new homes after getting attached to them, but we prefer that all animals go to foster care rather than sit in kennels/catteries for weeks at a time. Some of the animals come in in a very poor state, starved, abused and neglected. We need people who can welcome animals at very short notice, spend time with them to help them adjust to their new situations and give them general care. We can not pay fosterers and it has to be on a voluntary basis, at least until we can do some fund raising.
The Process
As a foster carer, we would expect you to be able to help give general care to the animals that you are capable of taking on. Give them their feeds and excercise and spend time with them. As we find suitable homes we need the carer to be able to allow potential new owners to visit and meet with the animal in foster. Once they have decided that they do want to adopt, I do homechecks and relevant paper work etc and then place the animal in their new home. It does mean working mainly on your own with the animal but full suppost will be given at all times. Some animals, especially the older cats and dogs tend to stay in foster a little longer, but we usually aim for 5 days - 2 weeks.
